Gorilla Trekking Permits: What You Need to Know Before You Book

All gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are issued exclusively by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

The current official Uganda gorilla permit prices are as follows: Foreign Non-Residents pay USD 800 per person per trek; Foreign Residents pay USD 700 per person per trek; Rest of Africa citizens pay USD 500 per person per trek; and East African Community citizens pay UGX 300,000 per person per trek. The Gorilla Habituation Experience permit, available only in Rushaga, costs USD 1,500 per person for foreign non-residents.

A maximum of eight permits is issued daily for each habituated gorilla group. In peak seasons — June to August and December to February — you usually need to book at least six months ahead of travel to ensure availability.
